Acadia National Park
The jewel of Maine is Acadia. There are many beautiful places to visit in this country but not many surpass the incredible beauty of Acadia. The combination of mountains that make up Mount Desert Island with the amazing rocky coastline of Maine create a special place that can take years to fully explore.
For the weekend visitor, they can take a drive along the Park Loop Road and explore Sand Beach (one of the few in Maine) as well as Thunder Hole while enjoying the breathtaking vistas looking out over Frenchman Bay. For the person who wants to take a nice stroll there are many easy hiking trails and carriage trails that provide a deeper appreciation of the beauty of Acadia. Then for the more adventurous there are hikes that range from moderate to difficult like the Precipice Trail that follows a series of narrow trails and iron ladders up the face of a cliff.
it is no wonder that many of the people that discover Acadia keep coming back for generations. There is so much to see and explore that it is hard to imagine ever getting bored.
Acadia:
- 40,000 acres
- 120 miles of hiking trails
- 45 miles of carriage trails
Of course on the rainy days there are the shops and museums in and around Bar Harbor. Not to mention the many restaurants and other activites that can easily fill many days on their own.
